Newly created or newly furbished?
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new Creation; old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.”
What a different man we had become since we became Christians! Our whole manner of thought had been revolutionized and we possess a form of godliness, a change of opinion from error to truth and a sudden passion for godly service.
In our mixed-up confused world, there are more than 700 sects and denominations calling themselves “Christians.” They all have somewhat different beliefs and practices. Some of these Christians claim as “new creations” when in fact their lives are equally distant from what they mark out making themselves more as “newly furbished” than “newly created.”
THE CHRISTIAN COMPREHENSION. Stop living in sin but live with a new and changed life and character. (Romans 6:4). One must understand that in referring to the death of Christ - in order to represent the death of Christ – it is to bring us into a kind of fellowship with his death. Another, following church rules to be considered a faithful church member avails nothing. A new and different life instinctively makes a difference. (Galatians 5:16) We as Christians do not measure up spirituality by how much prayer, witnessing or service we do but by dependence on the Spirit.
THE CHRISTIAN TRANSFORMATION. Stop recalling your past mistakes in life or show thoughtfulness of old self (Isaiah 43:18). All the wonders, the new manifestation of the power of God and the change of your life is being put side by side with the great historic past of Israel’s deliverance out of Egypt—the most glorious work of God. And leave your former conduct or behavior which corrupted your life then (Ephesians 4:22). Becoming a Christian not only involved getting rid of the old man and receiving the new man, but it also involved the process of renewing the new man that gives new life and a new direction, standing out against fruitless and darkened comprehension of the unbeliever.
To end, Christ’s death resulted to a new way of order and awareness, the worldly character is replaced by the spirit. The old standard which is weakness, folly and death is also replaced to a new one which is wisdom, power and life. Similarly, the Christian must live in this paradox by moving on and putting on a fresh and new self that agrees to the holiness of God and uprightness. AMEN
